A great setting in search of a decent horror film to fill it.. A surprisingly effective teen-skewing thriller that soft-pedals graphic violence (in marked contrast to the R-rated 1980 original) while generating a fair degree of suspense.. The story doesn't quite pay off, characters are underwritten and the surprise ending is contrived and unconvincing.. The final illuminations ... are a poor return on nearly two hours of ear-buckling, eye-stabbing incoherence.. May not quite be more than the sum...
